in 2010... Jeremy Bakke came down with encephalitis due to a traumatic brain injury. He ENDED UP IN THE HOSPITAL WHERE he STAYED FOR 3 WEEKS, HAVING MULTIPLE GRAND MAL SEIZURES EACH DAY. It took months for him to recover, which included having to learn how to walk again, talk Again, and even simple things like tell time and recognize people. It has been a trial that he never could have imagined. In the beginning, EVERY TIME he WOULD WAKE UP FROM A SEIZURE his family WOULD ASK him "HOW ARE YOU DOING?" AND he WOULD SAY "YOU KNOW JUST LIVIN' THE DREAM!" IT BECAME his "GO-To" PHRASE AS he STRUGGLED TO GET BACK INTO LIFE AFTER THE ENCEPHALITIS LEFT, LEAVING him WITH epilepsy, where he has seizures multiple times almost every day.
Now, several years later... the doctors still cannot get Jeremy's condition completely under control even with medication and a vagal nerve StIMULATOR. so, Jeremy is challenged to persevere each day and reclaim his life in spite of the "disability" that is now his lifelong challenge. "Livin’ the Dream" is no longer just his "go to phrase", it is a way of life. “Livin’ the Dream” to Jeremy is now loving the people around him and being in the moment.
Many things have changed... in his life since that critical day, however, one thing that can not be taken from him or anyone else living with a DISABILITY, is the relationships with people and the opportunity to love them and enjoy every moment life has to offer. Jeremy accepts his DISABILITY, but he does not let it define him.
Jeremy's Hope... is that he can encourage all people, no matter what afflicts them in life, to overcome the trials of THEIR personal "disability", whatever it may be, and continue ... Livin' the Dream!
